Alderman Berny Stone is a life-long resident of our community. A first generation American and veteran of the U.S. Military, Alderman Stone knows the value of hard work and sacrifice. Alderman Stone is a committed family man and dedicated leader our residents can trust.
Alderman Stone serves our interests at City Hall, working for more than 30 years as Alderman and Vice-Mayor to improve our community. Alderman Stone understands our needs and uses his experience to get the job done.
Alderman Stone fights to retain and revitalize the commercial vibrancy of the 50th Ward, spearheading such projects as the $25 million revitalization of Lincoln Village Shopping Center. Alderman Stone worked hard on the construction of a new Mutual Bank at Western and Rosemont Avenues and planning of a new parking garage on Devon Avenue.
Alderman Stone is a champion of improving the character of our residential neighborhoods in the 50th Ward. He helped create 42 new single family residences at Pratt Boulevard and Kedzie Avenue, as well as new private housing at Rockwell Street and Devon Avenue. Alderman Stone fought for our seniors by supporting the building of more than 600 units of subsidized housing for seniors in the district. Stone saved historic Thillens Stadium and established the public canoe launch and bike path on the Chicago River. Alderman Stone helped to introduce Community Policing (CAPS) to our neighborhoods and is an instrumental leader in the success of the Graffiti Removal Program.
Alderman Stone regularly attends condominium, community and neighborhood association meetings. To help him provide excellent service to constituents, Stone maintains a fully-staffed, full-service ward office at 6199 N. Lincoln Avenue, and is available to speak with residents during drop-in hours every Monday and Thursday.
Alderman Stone is Vice-Mayor of the City of Chicago and Chairman of the City Council Committee on Buildings. Stone serves on the Committees of Budget and Government Operations, Finance, Historical Landmark Preservation, Housing and Landmark Preservation, Traffic Control and Safety, and even the Committee on Committees, making sure the needs of our ward are second to none.
